Laganas Bay is the main part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos that was founded in 1999 for the protection of the endangered species of loggerhead sea turtle Caretta Caretta. From Laganas Beach you can catch a boat to visit the small islet of Marathonisi (Turtle Island), which is situated in the right side of the bay.
